News release: Calgary’s Hungry Volcano launches a new line of molten lava-inspired hot sauces
Calgary, Alberta, April 30, 2021 / Hungry Volcano, makers of hot sauces like Acid Rain and Alberta Crude, launched a new line of hot sauces today. Hot sauce lovers across North America can get their hands on these fiery concoctions at hungryvolcano.com or at select retailers in the coming weeks.
The pandemic gave Hungry Volcano founder Sam Shivji a unique opportunity to spend some time in the kitchen experimenting. “I heard from our customers that they were making their own hot wings in the air fryer or experimenting with different flavours on the barbecue. It got me motivated to do my own cooking,” says Sam.
The new molten lava-inspired sauces are hand made in small batches in Calgary. “We have a small but mighty team that rolled up their sleeves and put on some gas masks – N95s just don’t cut it when you’re dealing with Scorpion peppers.”
Hungry Volcano collaborated with local agency Daughter Creative on the design of the new line. Jill Dewes, partner at Daughter, noted: “When you really think about it, hot sauce bottles are just upside-down volcanoes, so we designed these to have a fun “hotsy-turvy” effect, where each sauce is named after an actual volcano, and the clear labels let you see the vibrant colours of each one.”
The new range is launching with three varieties:
- Kick ‘Em Jenny – when you want to kick things up a notch (less than a mountain, but more than a molehill), Jenny’s your girl. Not your grandma’s hot sauce; it’s our grandma’s hot sauce – and she was one spicy lady.
- Baratangy – More than a zip, this sauce zaps! But under all the fire and brimstone that the peppers pack, you can still taste the citrus, sugar, tamarind and vinegar – now, how ‘bout that?
- Piping Piparo – Piping Piparo picked a pile of piping hot peppers and just a pinch of it will punish your palate! Some like it hot, but few can handle it this hot.
For fans of Hungry Volcano’s other sauces, you’ll taste the signature flavour you find in Hatari Brothers, Grandma Shivji and Addiction brand products. But these sauces have some new flavours, and some crazy hot peppers like Scorpions, Habaneros, Piquins and Scotch Bonnets.
The trio will be available at hungryvolcano.com and the Calgary Crossroads Market starting today.
